Performance Art

What a colorful work this is!

Because you are colorful, joyful, natural, humorous, fun, sunny, passionate—
and even more so, because you bring us a heart of innocence.

At the opening ceremony of my exhibition in New Zealand at the Flagstaff Gallery, surrounded by my colorful works, I unknowingly completed my performance art piece “Laughter”.

Ha-ha, ha-ha, ha—

The “Laughter” performance art unfolded like this:
•   I laugh, and they laugh with me.
•   I don’t laugh, and they laugh in unison.
•   I smile gently, and they laugh out loud.
•   I laugh heartily, and they burst into wild laughter.
•   I don’t feel like laughing, and they laugh at me.

Then I lead the laughter again, and they laugh even more passionately.

I put on a forced smile, and they insist it’s a genuine one!

The most beautiful thing is seeing them laugh with abandon!

And even more beautiful is that they laughed because of my colors.

he whole process was simply magical!

In one exhibition, I completed two acts:
1. The “Colorful World” painting exhibition.
2. The “Laughter” performance art piece.

On the Infectiousness and Persuasiveness of My “Laughter” Performance

When people stepped into my exhibition, they were greeted by a cheerful world of colors. As I explained my works, it was as if I was guiding them into the inner vision of this colorful realm, bringing with it lighthearted smiles.

At the end of each explanation, I deliberately added a “ha-ha” laugh, and after every painting’s conclusion, I repeated this “ha-ha” rhythmically. This amusing repetition made people happy and laugh. Soon, different kinds of laughter overlapped into a chorus—continuous and unending—like beautiful musical notes dancing with the colors of the gallery.

A single laugh can add ten years to life. In the midst of ordinary life, in a serious and perhaps oppressive gallery space, people could, in the presence of colors, release such pure and natural laughter. That was my “Color Therapy” quietly at work.

The audience, without realizing it, joined in this joyous act. They became collaborators. The artist and the viewers shared the same space, the same moment in time, breathing the same air, and generating the same emotions.

Is there any better spiritual remedy for the heart than this?
The subconscious connection between body and spirit transcends the physical self. Through an optimistic attitude towards reality, people are drawn into joyful interaction, into harmony between humanity and nature. They forget the troubles of daily life and lose themselves in the laughter of the colorful space I created.

This is my “Color Therapy.”

Unlike many other artists, my interaction with the audience is two-way.

There are two kinds of exchanges: spiritual exchange and direct exchange. I particularly value two-way spiritual exchange. This means I first transmit the energy released by my visuals to the audience. They, in turn, are moved emotionally and affected by the atmosphere of the scene, sending this energy back to me. Between visuals / performance / audience / artist, the energy flows back and forth—a cycle of spiritual exchange.

When people view my colorful works, they may be delighted, deeply moved, or even shocked. This creates a spiritual connection between us. From there, interaction happens naturally. Feeling and receiving art is more important than merely understanding it. If a viewer experiences a lasting feeling, I know that my work has forged a deep spiritual link with their inner world. When they accept this powerful feeling, they have also, subconsciously, accepted my “soul-to-soul interaction.”

In my works, I always use colors to connect with the audience on a spiritual level. For me, color is a sacred transmitter of energy. My colors awaken sensations in viewers, and that is a wonderful process.

To subtly draw the audience into my guided laughter—without them realizing—is another challenge of performance art. For me personally, I also cannot help but immerse myself in it. This is self-therapy within Color Therapy.

Performance art is a force—an unpredictable challenge. It is open-ended and cannot be fully scripted. It can be provocative and evolves with the changes of the moment. It emphasizes the connection between the artist and society, existing because of the interaction between artist and audience.

In my art, I hope to give people the best things I have—my colors, my feelings, my soul.
Through colorful, natural, emotionally charged, and delightful “Laughter” performance art, I complement our world of colors.

It feels like entering a new dimension—where shared human actions establish performance art as a meaningful and valuable form of emotional interaction.
